Mayan Hammock
These beautiful hammocks are handmade and sold by a Mexican coop based in in
the Yucatan Peninsula. Over 700 families are currently members of the coop. The women work on hammocks
in order to supplement their family income. Since the work is done at home, working conditions are
better than in factories. In this way the women and men can work and take care of their children at
the same time. If they want to take a day off for medical, family, or personal reasons, they do so
without the need to ask anyone's permission or report to anyone. When they have finished the hammocks,
they deliver them to the company representative or the representative goes to their villages and picks
them up. |

Since the
women use their own artistic talent and follow long family traditions, each hammock is slightly
different. We have categorized the color schemes into four main categories:

The Thick Cord Mayan Hammock, as the name says, made of a
thicker cord, 3X the thickness of normal hammocks which makes
it softer and stronger.
Available in Medium (13.12' x 6.2' -
supports 1,100 lbs ) or Large (13.12' x 7' - supports 1,540 lbs.
